Cameron Mitchell’s latest Columbus restaurant is Del Mar, a Mediterranean-focused eatery that took over the previous Bon Vie house at Easton, throughout from the fountains. They’ve transformed the house into two ranges, with a downstairs bar and eating areas, and an upstairs atrium-style eating room, bar, and rooftop patios. They kindly invited us out to attempt the place!
While you enter on the principle stage, you’re greeted with the host stand and a view of the downstairs bar and eating room.
And whereas the downstairs is gorgeous, for those who’re provided the chance to take a seat upstairs, we’d suggest you’re taking it. The atrium-style eating room includes a vaulted glass ceiling, a great deal of greenery, and a full bar.
We began with a pair of their home cocktails: the Outdated Usual with Buffalo Hint, a light-weight contact of coconut, orange, and fig bitters; and the Gramercy margarita with Milagro Reposado, tropical orange, peach, and poblano.
One in all our favourite issues about Mediterranean eating places is the abundance of dips and small plates, and Del Mar begins off with a robust choice.
We want we might have ordered a sampler of all of them, however alas, they’re served individually. We “settled” for the spicy feta…
…and the roasted purple pepper. Each very properly carried out, richly seasoned. They’re served with fresh-baked pita. You can too add on chilled greens for dipping, which we extremely suggest.
Along with dips, starters, and Turkish flatbreads, the highest portion of the menu options chilly seafood like recent oysters, a jumbo shrimp cocktail, and so on. We tasted the yellowfin tuna tartare, which was boldly seasoned with Calabrian chili, cucumber, an olive tapenade, and inexperienced tahini.
Fast interlude for a second spherical of drinks. Right here’s the Seaside Occasion, a refreshing concoction of pineapple Aperol, lemon, strawberry, and glowing rosé.
And a “Julia’s Winery” pinot noir from Santa Maria Valley in California.
For our most important dishes we tried the small model of the open hearth roasted shellfish platter. It options South African lobster tail, scallops, prawns, clams, and mussels in a wealthy garlic lemon broth.
The lobster tail is a spotlight of the dish. You’ll want to ask for further bread to absorb the broth!
We additionally tried the lobster spaghetti. It’s easy however properly seasoned with candy garlic tomato sauce, parmigiano reggiano, and that flippantly fiery Calabrian chili.
Completely don’t skip out on dessert! The Turkish mocha torte is ideal for chocolate-lovers like yours actually: chocolate mousse, whipped cream, espresso crumble. Very decadent.
However even that’s outshone by the olive oil cake. It’s ridiculously moist, topped with seasonal fruit, a pine nut streusel, whipped mascarpone, and saba.
Along with the principle atrium on the higher stage, they function some open-air eating areas as properly.
