Summer season at Food52 started with a full home of particular company. Along with our associates at Nice British Meals, we invited over 100 group members to our house within the Brooklyn Navy Yard for scrumptious cocktails and the very best of British meals—plus a demo from a Nice British Bake Off chef.
English-inspired linens topped with delicate florals helped set the British backyard social gathering vibe. Outdoors, the Manhattan skyline drew company onto the terrace for a greater view.
Company selected from UK craft spirits and English glowing wines on the bar. The Tom Collins-esque Juniper Spritz featured Sipsmith Gin, Lillet, easy syrup, membership soda, and lemon. The Paper Jet, a play on a Paper Aircraft, showcased Penderyn Welsh Whisky with Averna, Aperol, and a lemon twist. Caleño non-alcoholic spirits provided pleasant, zero-proof sips.
English glowing wines from Hattingley Valley, Gusbourne, and Chapel Down rounded out the bar menu alongside Sipsmith Gin and Tonics and Nc’Nean Scotch Whisky.
We stuffed this lovely grazing desk with UK specialty cheeses, starting from Shropshire, England’s Belton Farms Sage Derby to Collier’s Welsh Cheddar, and set out recent, summery salads to accompany them. Handed hors d’oeuvres that includes Scottish brown crab, Lochlander Scottish Smoked Salmon, and premium Welsh lamb, which is lastly accessible in the USA, disappeared rapidly en route from the kitchen.
The star of the night was 2021 Nice British Bake Off finalist and cookbook creator Crystelle Pereira. Identified throughout her time on Bake Off as a grasp of advanced taste mixtures (just like the Goan hen pickle curry pie that gained her Star Baker and the enduring Hollywood Handshake in Pastry Week), Pereira entertained company with a reside demo of her lamb shawarma loaded fries. (Yow will discover the recipe in her cookbook, Taste Kitchen)
A particular thanks to the next purveyors, whose merchandise we tasted all through the night: Growers Backyard, Nairn’s Oatcakes, The Drinks Bakery, Wonderful Cheese Firm, Irish Black Butter, Godminster Cheese, Coombe Fortress, Bakkafrost, MacDuff, Caleño, Gusbourne in addition to Nc’Nean Scotch Whisky, Penderyn Whisky, Hattingley Valley, Chapel Down, Sipsmith, and Fever Tree Tonics.
